Congratulations to Richard Curtis, who was sworn in as a Seabrook Firefighter last month.
Water Restrictions Lifted by Selectmen April 2017
The Seabrook Board of Selectmen lifted the water restrictions that had been in place since last year on April 17, 2017. The lifting of these restrictions was recommended by Water Superintendent Curtis Slayton, who made a presentation to the Board. Superintendent Slayton indicated that Seabrook is currently outside of the drought area in New Hampshire, but asked residents to continue to use water carefully. The Board of Selectmen thanked the residents of Seabrook for their sacrifice and cooperation while the restrictions were in place. It enabled the Town Water system to recharge, and will aid the Water Department in meeting the increased demand that comes in summer months. A big thank you to all the residents.
Coastal Resilience and Sand Dunes Workshop Held in Seabrook
The Seabrook Beach Village District hosted The Coastal Resilience and Sand Dunes in Seabrook Workshop 1-Dune Health March 27 at 4 PM at the Seabrook Beach Precinct Building.
After a brief introduction, members of the group walked to the dunes. While on Hudson Street the discussion revolved around examining the beach grass die off, the many threats to our beach’ dunes and learning about the work the UNH team is doing.
Upon returning to the building, a discussion was held on where and how to use the beach and dunes. Julie LaBranch (Rockingham Planning Commission), spoke of the importance of sand dunes while Alyson Eberhardt (Coastal Ecosystems Specialist/NH Sea Grant/UNH Cooperative Education) spoke on dune ecology and function. Gregg Moore,PHD UNH,showed video made by drones over the entire length of our beach as he spoke about dune health and resilience.
A discussion of all information needs and priorities was followed by the announcement of Workshop 11 ( Dune and Beach Planning) which will be held from 2:00pm – 4:00pm on April 18 at the Seabrook Library.
Swearing in of Elected Officials 2017
Friday evening the newly elected officials were sworn in at Town Hall. Congratulations to all who put themselves before the voters. Best wishes for a successful tenure.
Ocean State Job Lots Opens in Seabrook
The ribbon cutting happened this weekend at the Ocean State Job Lots at the old Wal-Mart site in Seabrook. A big thank you to the company for the investment in Seabrook, and a very big thank you to the Seabrook Planning Board, who worked so hard on the important details that make projects like this a reality. The Seabrook Board of Selectmen were on hand to welcome the company, and it was a pleasure to be joined by Senator Dan Innis, and Representative Chase and Representative Janvrin as well. The grand opening was very busy, and it will be a great addition to our strong retail corridor.
Seabrook Election Day 2017
A very big thank you to Moderator Paul Kelley and the entire team of election workers, who were out at the polls on a very tough day this past Tuesday, March 14, 2017. They did a terrific job of keeping the election machinery moving in very difficult conditions. Congratulations to all the candidates who worked so hard to present themselves to our voters!
Fire at Seabrook Beach, Catalano’s Market
Below is the description, from the Seabrook Fire Department,of the massive fire at Seabrook Beach that destroyed Catalano’s Market. Our sincere thanks to the Seabrook Fire Department personnel, as well as those from surrounding communities, that battled this blaze in truly difficult conditions. Chief William Edwards was on the site at 3:30 am, and did a great job managing the scene, with Deputy Koko Perkins. We managed to get through this event with none of our people injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with those displaced by the fire, and to the Catalano family.
On March 15 we had a 3-Alarm Fire at Catalano’s Market on the corner of River Street and Rte 1a. We were notified of the fire at 3:13am. We had extremely cold temperatures mixed with 40-50mph winds. The structure was well involved upon arrival. Luckily all residents were able to get out prior to our arrival.
The environmental conditions and building construction made extinguishing the fire and initial fire attack very difficult. We were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. No residents or firefighters were hurt.
We are extremely thankful of the following departments from 3 states that came to our aid this morning.
Seabrook Fire Department would like to thank the Seabrook Police Department, Seabrook Water Department, Seabrook DPW, North Hampton Fire, Hampton Fire, Hampton Falls Fire, Exeter Fire, East Kingston Fire, South Hampton Fire, Kensington Fire, Portsmouth Fire, Rye Fire, Amesbury Fire, Salisbury Fire, Newbury Fire, Newburyport Fire, York Rehab Unit, and Seacoast Chiefs Fire Officer Mutual Aid.All in all we had 14 different communities respond and roughly 40-50 firefighters on scene.
Our thoughts are with the Catalano’s during this difficult time.
The Water Department 2017 Presentation on Warrant Articles
The Seabrook Water Department has created the attached slide show to highlight the warrant articles that they have put forth for Town Meeting on March 14, 2017. Article 10, on Anne’s Lane, deserves a little attention. This line is undersized, but more importantly, has cracked frequently, forcing us to constantly repair it. Even after repairs it provides inadequate water pressure to the homes served. The Board of Selectmen have authorized the utilization of Unexpended Fund Balance to finance the anticipated costs, which leaves no impact to the taxpayers. It would be a good investment, and allow us to replace the old and faulty one inch line with an 8 inch line that meets the needs of our residents, and comports to the existing water ordinance. Please get out and vote.
